A downloadable Simulation for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Thistle Gulch is Fable Studio's  first Multi-Agent Gym Environment or “MAGE”. This platform isn't a game; it's a groundbreaking tool that merges the art of storytelling with the latest advancements in artificial intelligence. It’s the same Simulation that powered our SAGA release, an open-source tool for agents to make decisions in such worlds.

You can explore Thistle Gulch by interacting with the Runtime Simulation, but you can also customize Thistle Gulch Scenarios by editing/writing Python code within the Bridge. The API is very powerful and allows blending both AI and Authored actions. Check out the Documentation and Demos for examples on what you can do!

Weekly Town Hall

The community has a weekly Town Hall on Zoom where we discuss feedback, answer questions, and plan for the creative and technical next steps of the Simulation.

Install instructions

DO NOT USE DOWNLOAD BUTTONS to install Thistle Gulch! We highly recommend installing using the Itch Desktop App, especially on Windows. See the following video for a walkthrough of the simple setup.

Note: for Non-Windows and Devs, see the Advanced Setup instructions below as well.

An OpenAI API Key (required to start)

We recommend starting with OpenAI for the best ratio of convenience, speed, and cost. We use GPT-3.5 by default, so you should be able to experiment with all the demos and keep the total costs under $1 and we show a cost counter in the upper right corner to help you track this cost.

Advanced Setup (Non-Windows and Developers):

The Windows build contains the "bridge" as a Runtime that you can start right from itch.io. Other platforms will need to install the open-source bridge using the README instructions available on GitHub. Similarly, once you have tested the demos and want to customize and extend things, you will need to fork the repo and start to make your own changes.
